About Dr. Mohamed Farouk

Dr. Mohamed is a certified Environmental Consultant from the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency with an extensive experience of over 35 years in the field of environmental management. His vast experience is a testament to his expertise, having conducted a multitude of environmental and social impact assessment studies across various sectors, including tourism, energy, mining, petroleum, ports, and marinas. Dr. Mohamed’s extensive knowledge and proficiency in environmental matters make him a seasoned expert in his field.

He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and a PhD in Strategic Environmental Assessment.

Personal Experience:

He joined EEAA in 1988 as a civil officer and reached the position of Head of the Environmental Management Sector before starting freelancer consultation in 2018. His professional expertise spans a wide spectrum of environmental studies, ranging from coastal and marine research to the meticulous discipline of Environmental Impact Assessment. 

He has contributed significantly to projects involving marine spatial planning, coastal and beach planning, disaster flood management, and strategic environmental assessment.

Beyond his extensive career, Dr. Mohamed has played pivotal roles in shaping national and international environmental policy. His involvement in the preparation of Egypt’s Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) National Strategy, formulation of guidelines for coastal development projects and setting up the policy and regulations of the EIA system in Egypt underscores his commitment to sustainable environmental practices. 

Furthermore, he has represented Egypt as a negotiating delegate in many international conferences, conventions and protocols, and participated as an Egyptian technical delegate member in the committee formulated by the United Nations Environmental Programme UNEP for redrafting the Integrated Coastal Management Protocol for the Mediterranean basin countries. 

Also, he served as the National Focal Point for the Priority Action Programme/Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC) for more than 10 years and the National focal point for the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) at the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).
